Tire size disparities

BFG is typically slightly shorter than the size on the side of the tire. The only way to properly compare is to have them mounted on the same wheel, off a vehicle, same pressure. Interco tires typically run taller than there size.

The BFG tires are about the easiest to balance and smoothest street ride I've ever had. You definitely pay for this type of quality.

You can also look at the tire spec charts. The manufacturer will give you the actual diameter of the tire on the recommended wheel width.

I was thinking this very same thing. I’ve also noticed that a lot of them are stating reva per mile as well. This is a newer thing to me, and I’m curious as to how each manufacturer gets their reva per mile.

Does someone else have the answer? I understand how they get it I guess, but is there a standard tire pressure, wheel size, load? I’d think there would be so many variables that would effect the result.

Unfortunately, these specs are notoriously inaccurate from almost every tire manufacturer. You cannot rely on their published dimensions to be anywhere close to actual. I cannot speak for the precision of their published revs/mile though.

BFG’s actual measurements are very accurate. Even though they measure smaller than what is written on the sidewall, their true measurement charts I have found to be very accurate.

There's another reason why their stated measurements are inaccurate: it's because their numbers are wrong. For instance, their 37" A/T KO2 is claimed to measure 36.5" diameter.

Not. Even. Close.

Their measurement charts are a joke. Other manufacturers' charts may be more reliable, but not BFG's.

They're also tiny compared to other manufacturers' 37" tires. I've seen 35" tires from certain other manufactures that are taller than BFG's 37's. I'm not trying to be argumentative with you, but having worked for many years in a 4x4 tire store, I have firsthand experience with all of this.

I will agree that BFG tires are very small compared to their rated size, but I have been impressed with their all around performance and would have a hard time buying any other brand for a vehicle that sees some very difficult off-road conditions and still cruises the streets and highways with little noise, awesome tread life, and very easily balanced.

BFG KM2, 37x12.5R17, on a JK OEM wheel, measures 36.5” which matches the BFG tire chart. I would bet that they would be a bit shorter on a 10” wide rim like they used on their chart. Tire was a friends spare that only saw a 100 miles, if that, in its life.

Just for fun, here’s a Falken Wildpeak M/T KOH spec tire, 38x13.5R17 on a JK OEM wheel that has been raced twice. It’s lost about. 1/4 inch of tread. Now measures 37.75”.

Big difference between an unloaded tire and the calculation for revs/mile. If you look at your tire mounted to your Jeep... siting in the garage or driveway, and measure from the center to the ground, that would be the rolling radius and would calculate out pretty close to the revs/mile. If you measure from the center to the top (or somewhere else not compressed) that will be WAY closer the to advertised size.

If both of those numbers are the same, you have WAY too much air pressure.
