Ask The Expert- Shock relocation bracket

I am trying to gain more travel from my 3 inch Bilstein 5100 lift. A shop suggested installing a relocation bracket on the shocks and adjusting the bumps tops to achieve more travel. Will that work? Any potential issues with doing this?

Bump stops limit upward travel, and are there to keep things from moving to far upward and hitting other parts.
If shocks are too short, they could limit down travel.

If you can get your Jeep on the MC CTI trailer sometime, and let one of their experts look at it, and give you good tips on what to do, that would be a big help.

Mickey, where are you at? I agree with Todd, get it on a trailer or flex it out on a big rock, delivery dock wall etc.... (without the shocks)

You can reduce the size of the bumpstops, but that may lead to contact with other things. A relocation bracket of any kind is only going to allow longer shocks, unless the shocks are currently limiting travel you won't see any difference with just longer shocks.

OK
If you were further north, I was gonna suggest going to Metal Cloaks upcoming event. I forget what they're calling it but it's a prelude to the Cantina on the Con, they'll have the RTI trailer there.

The MetalCloak open house event.

I would love to attend also, but just over 3 hours away from me.
Unless I need to drop the Jeep off there for them to install some cool stuff, then I could have my arm twisted to head on up.

These guys are heading you in the right direction. You will want to flex the jeep out to see if the shock is able to get full travel or if it is your limitation. Some bump stop will be need to keep the shock from getting bottomed out and to keep the tire out of the fender.
