Merry Christmas guys. Been great getting to know all of you all this year. I look forward to growing this forum further in 2017 and possibly getting a ride together. Post up some of your Christmas joy. I got to spend a week in Arkansas with my family and have thoroughly enjoyed it. However my grandfather did lose his brother this past week. Uncle Bill was 95 and a Cheif Master Sergeant.

We had a good Christmas, other than no Jeeping.
We went to the coast and played in the sand on the beach, took long walks and drank some great Central Cali Coast wine.

Then bought myself a Rugged Radio for the Jeep for myself!

That sounds nice. At least you didn't have to travel much. Ordered me a switch pod, wiring, lights, a new spare, MC bumps, and a few other things. Spending what's left of vaca on installing. Gonna be fun.

So with this you can mount the radio anywhere and put the faceplate in another?

OK, that's my concern is not having a license if needed etc. The pricing isn't bad and I could see them becoming bigger in the market as prices become a bit better. The big drawback I would think would be limitations on who you can communicate with, if you can only use these radios. I mean if you're out with a dozen rigs and you're the only one with this radio, I don't see it as being very effective if the other 11 have CB's.

Im curious how much they actually police the use of HAM radios. I cant see it on the eastern side of us.

The issue is not everyone has these radios yet.
We are working with the guys in our Jeep club to buy these or the knock-offs on Amazon.
The benefit of Rugged or PCI, is the service after the sale.
Rugged it only a 2 hour drive from my house, so I can knock on their door if I have an issue.

We are also pushing those in our club that don't have a lot of money, to get the Rugged handheld.
It is 5 watts, and has decent range also. We just tested them out this past weekend at Hollister SVRA.

Not sure how much the FCC is policing the use of someone not having a license and using a radio.
I did read some place not too long ago that a fine was upheld in court for someone not having a license and using a radio.
Not sure what type of radio or where.
I would think that as long as you are not doing anything to bring discredit to yourself or making a problem on the frequencies you are using, they probably are not going to bother you.
They have bigger fish to fry.

One of the reasons I like the VHF band, is no license required.
