Hub-centric vs lug-centric wheels

Hub-centric is technically better (it takes the load off your wheel studs and transfers it directly to the unit bearings) but it requires that the wheels be manufactured for each specific vehicle model, which adds confusion and cost for the aftermarket wheel industry. It's just simpler for aftermarket wheel manufacturers to make lug-centric wheels that fit a variety of applications with the same lug pattern, like every vehicle used to have back in the day. You'll be fine with either hub- or lug-centric wheels.

Thanks for the replies so far.

I know the difference between the two, but I am wary of running lug-centric. Just doesn’t sound as strong or a great idea to me. I’ve been looking at new wheels and noticed most are as stated by Rubicon lug-centric.

I’ve found a few that are hub-centric and still leaning that direction. I wanted to gauge others input and experience, so that’s more of the reasoning behind this post.

I get looking for the best strength, but the lug centric is still pretty strong, I have never had a problem with mine, if all you are looking for is experience of others. that's what I would tell you. If your mind is made up and are really only looking for Hub Centric, again agree it is stronger.

There are also different adapter rings that can help make a non-hubcentric wheel match up to your hub. If you know the bore size of the wheel, you can get the adapter ring to match your hub.

Here's a link to an example on Amazon for a wheel that I was checking out at one time: http://a.co/d/4v6cbZY
