2014 JKUR Build Thread

Actually, I remembered that the very first upgrade was installing a factory hard top. We purchased with the vehicle and installed it in our shop. After paying for labor and having the dealer flash the computer to recognize the new wiper and washer, installation ran us $240. You have to remove the cluster, change some pin-outs, routed hose and wire to the rear of the vehicle, install the top, etc. The dealer wanted $700 for a complete installation. :O

After we put in the TrailDash, this was the next thing to go.

The rear transverse-mounted muffler took up a bunch of space under the vehicle. We've seen huge, heavy skidplates for this area, but think Dynomax's Rock Crawler Exhaust is a better solution.

My butt-dyno says it adds at least 10HP! :D

Here is a video of the exhaust sound.

Stay tuned... we've got a lot more in store for this JK.

There are still a few more goodies in the box...

M.O.R.E. JK Parts 2015-03-25 017.jpg

ARB got in touch with M.O.R.E. to develop this compressor bracket for the Jeep JK Wrangler. It's also designed to accommodate an SPOD as well.

Traildash Dashpod Installed in Jeep Wrangler JK - Four Corners 4x4 2015-08-24 001.jpg
We ended up moving the Superchips TrailDash from the included windshield mount to the fixed mount above the center cluster. This is a great location for both driver and passenger viewing and still retains the storage tray.

We've got a lot more in store including a dual battery tray and isolator kit, SPOD installation, CB Radio, Rear Camera & Tuffy Security boxes.

Ha! I think auto correct got you there.

I'm still catching up on the build thread and the Superchips pictures are a little old. We've actually upgraded to the TrailDash2 now, which has a much larger screen that's easier to navigate. I'll see if I can dig up some pics of the new unit; it's not here at the shop right now.

JK Wrangler Electronics Upgrades

Here's a shot of the new TD2 from Superchips. If you have any specific questions about it, let me know. I still need to download the TPMS programming to reduce the pressure at which the alert sounds.

We've been doing quite a few electronics projects lately. I need to route that radar detector cable inside the dash as well.

Since the ARB compressor mount had the ability to also mount an SPOD, we ordered one up. We're only using one circuit right now, but a system like this is the best (safest) way to added additional electrical loads to a vehicle with modern electronics like the JK Wrangler.

JK Progress 2016-04-15 003.jpg

This is the six-switch panel with air gauge. We'll have circuits for communications, front lighting, rear lighting, air compressor, and some spares.

JK Progress 2016-04-15 002.jpg

We're not quite finished up with the CB Radio installation, but I knew from the installation in my Jeep LJ Wrangler, that I needed an external speaker near my head. This one fits great on the soundbar facing forward.

JK Progress 2016-04-15 001.jpg

I'm pretty excited about this little upgrade. Since the Superchips TD2 comes with a video input, we drilled out the spare tire hub cap for an infrared rear-view camera. :joyous:

Next up is a pair of dual Optimas. I had these laying around the shop, so why not? The bracket kit is from M.O.R.E.

https://www.mountainoffroad.com/jkdbt12-dual-battery-tray-for-12-and-up-jeep-wrangler-jks.html

Real estate is definitely tight under the hood of the 2014 JK Wrangler. The air cleaner needs to be removed and reinstalled in order to be able to move the factory fuse block forward slightly.
M.O.R.E. JK Dual Battery Tray Installation 2016-04-23 002.jpg

The factory tray cuts easily with a cutoff wheel in order to make room for the new steel tray. I need to get some final installation pics, but our version is the older model with a fabric battery tie-down. I was excited to see they've updated the design to an all-steel strap now.
M.O.R.E. JK Dual Battery Tray Installation 2016-04-23 003.jpg

The kit doesn't include any wiring. I ordered up a dual battery isolator kit from Transamerican. I had the drill this hole behind the dash to mount the switch in a convenient, but out of the way location.

Metal Cloak Parts Installed and Ready for the All-4 Fun!

We rushed to get all of our MetalCloak parts installed just before attending the All-4 Fun. What do you think?

... and another quick video of us up on the Metal Cloak CTI trailer. The M.O.R.E. 1" body lift, Metal Cloak fenders, and 34" BFG KO2s really work well together. We discovered a small interference issue (thanks to Metal Cloak) with the factory rear sway bar. We were also having issues with the electronic swaybar disconnect on the front of the JK, so we only scored a 520 on the CTI ramp.

Can you post up some more pics of the transfer case skid. I'm interested to see how it ties into the frame and crossmember.
