Who is in Texas?

So, at the end of the year, we are moving from Cali to Texas.

Lots of things are cheaper, gas, vehicle registrations, houses.

We are looking forward to the move, but going to miss our Cali Jeeping family.
We will make new friends though.
So, just asking who is in Texas, and where?
We are headed to Midland.

They have a few OHV parks around us that we will find and wheel at.
Show off our MC stuff on our Jeep and Promote MC every where we go.

I have family in Dallas...that’s about it.

All I can say is it’s flat, extreme weather, and a massive Oil and Gas town.

New Job?

Yes, new job but with my current employer.

We will arrive around Christmas time and job starts on Jan 2nd.

Not sure when our Jeep will arrive as it will be shipped by the company.

Looking at the parks, it is much more condensed trail system.
The rocks seem to be about the same on the trails.

At least in the park, if you break, it could be easy to get the Jeep back to the trailer.
On some of the trails I run here in Cali, it could make for a very long day and night to get off the trail with a broken rig and depending on the trail.
Ducy Ershim is 33 miles long. Could be two days to get off the trail.
Swamp Lake is about 15 miles long, and could be another long day.

33 miles! Holy smokes. Is it all crawling or is there some high speed areas.

Wow, 33 miles. We have one up here that is maybe a quarter mile, and takes 6 hours.

I have been on a few of those 1/4 mile’ish trails like that. You get out of the trail and your just exhausted. Typical ride is only 5-6 miles of trail and it’s an all day event.

Dusy is usually a 3 day trip to run across.
Some of the guys with buggies now are running it in a day.

Swamp Lake is 14 miles and can be done in a day, but you are beat up by the end of the trail.
Going to miss these longer trails like this.

Dusy sounds awesome. I would love to do a 3 day ride like that and camp out. I couldn't imagine doing it in one. Especially in a bouncer or buggy.

Midland is busy busy during the current oil boom. It’s flat, stinks and dirty. I call it the armpit of Texas. You do have some small sand dunes in Kermit to play in if you like the dunes. I’m in DFW area.

Hello, new to the forum. I’m from Houston there is several off road parks around here that offer camping on weekends so you can wheel all weekend. Most of the parks have no rocks it’s mostly muddy forest trails and bayou crossings. It’s cool though it’s like wheeling in the jungle.

I’m in the DFW area! Welcome to Texas! I should have at least another 2 years left here until the military moves me again...

Sadly the Kermit Sandhills are closed now. Looks like they are going to start mining for frac sand there.

But Welcome to TX! There are some cool places in Big Bend you definitely should check out. Plus like others have said, we have several off-road parks, not many close to Midland though.
